Our Collaboration with the Youth Sport Trust
Nds Directors Charles Freeman & Zoe-Jane Littlewood on the importance of this project…
“Working alongside the Youth Sport Trust for the School Games National Finals was an incredibly rewarding experience. We’re proud to have contributed to ensuring neuroinclusive practices were embedded throughout the event, from consultation during planning to empowering athlete mentors and providing on-the-day support. The development of the Neurodiversity One-Pager represents a key milestone in shaping a more inclusive approach to school sports. It’s exciting to see this project play a role in the Inclusion 2024 programme, helping to improve access and opportunities for neurodivergent young people across the country.”

About the Project
Neurodiverse Sport is proud to have collaborated with the Youth Sport Trust for the School Games National Finals in August 2024, helping ensure that neuroinclusive practices were embedded throughout the event. Our team provided consultation during the planning phase to ensure that neurodivergent athletes’ needs were considered, and we contributed to the pre-games resource, offering guidance on creating an inclusive environment for all participants. Prior to the event, we ran a session with athlete mentors, empowering them with the knowledge and tools to support neurodivergent athletes, and provided a strong presence on the day to ensure that neurodiversity was fully supported.
Building on this successful collaboration, we contributed to the development of the Neurodiversity One-Pager, a vital resource for event organisers. This one-pager is a crucial step in helping shift the approach to neurodiversity in school sports. It serves as a valuable tool that not only supports event organisers but also contributes meaningfully to the Inclusion 2024 programme for the Department of Education, aiming to improve access to quality PE and sports opportunities for pupils with SEND. This ongoing partnership is a significant milestone in creating a more inclusive, accessible sports environment for all young people.
